Round mesh grilles were prevalent in the early 60s. Other examples can be seen in the two-transistor radio and the Sonys here and here.

     Both of these radios were made in Japan. The top one is an Invicta, the bottom one a Remington.  They look so much  alike, I could have just as easly used black and white film, huh?

     I found the Remington in its original packaging.
